Bones new friend Gwendolyn
decides to take Bones home
to meet her mother.

Bones feels at home.
The place has the smell of poverty
that he’s used to.

They climb up the dark,
dank,
smelly stairs,
being as careful as possible
not to step in any little mistakes
left on the stairs,
by the crowd of kids
living in the tenement.

You don’t want to slip and fall.
It’s a long way down to the bottom.

“Yo, Gwendolyn,
you got any money for me?”

“Yeah,
I got a “C” note for ya,
it was a good night.”

“Well fork it over Hon.
Who’s that with you?
He looks like a bag of Bones.”

That makes Bones smile.

“Does he got any money?”

“Nah, he ain’t got nothing,
he had a bad night,
no tricks.

Bobby

As a Bones fan, the direction the series is taking disturbs me.  Perhaps that is your intention but the Bones depicted here doesn`t seem like `our` Bones.  After all, you had remined us numerously that Bones would never do anyone any harm.

Thanks Earl,

I'm sorry you're disturbed.

Who did "our" Bones hurt in this poem?

I think writers can`t always be at the beck and call of the reader.  Sometimes they have to make us experience things that are unpleasant.  As for Bones, I don`t know why Gwendolyn is handing money over to him and why Bones takes a delight over the crumpled body in the hallway.  I guess that is what I mean by hurting people.  I have a problem over here in Japan with the site because sometimes paragraph markers or stops appear on my computer as Chinese characters.  These errors don`t happen all the time but words can be blocked out.

Thanks Earl,

Let me address your concerns.  This poem must not be very clear.

First of all, Gwendolyn is not giving any money to Bones.  Gwendolyn is giving the money to her mother.  Like Bones, Gwendolyn is a prostitute, and she gives her money to her mother.

There is no crumpled body in the hallway.  Gwendolyn's mother is talking about Bones being a bag of Bones.

Take my word for it, Bones never hurt anyone, however a lot of people have hurt Bones.

I really will have to strive for more clarity in my writing.
