I cannot stop listening to the same two songs
One by a man.
He is only a voice.
He leans in so close to my ear that his breath is a sound.
He whispers, his voice lost in breath so quiet, his own shoulder would not hear him
The lights are off, but in the pitch blackness I can see the kind sparks of mirth in his eyes
because he knows that I will.

I listen to him from the hardwood floor, alone, in the dark.
The bass pulses, taps, nudges at my own body's fleshy metronome
The vibration in the floor is a tiger's heavy footfalls coming, silent, padded, ten thousand pounds,
the door swings and clicks shut behind its approach
Its dexterous joints rolling, its muscles knitting and releasing in the patient jungle courtship of hunger
It is stalking in circles around my supine body
It could wait. But it does not want to.
Its whiskers brush my ear teasingly and its breath whispers
Do not be afraid
You are also a tiger
And the night is young.

The song ends there.

One is by a woman
She is so, so close
Her sound laces through my fingers and she begins to whisper
As the tiny fleshy sphere we have become wrestles, diving fast through viscous electronic water
Her voice sliding from my left ear to my right, over the back of my neck, we are rolling down deep
She murmurs, she is laughing, she cannot think,
she is losing her mind, and in our slow locomotive grappling
her urgent, meaningless utterance is lost below the purring of the cotton sheets
She is dizzy
She is trying so hard to be gentle
She is trying to make it last a little longer
Just one more moment
And it does last
Another minute and thirty seconds.

The song ends there.

She is only a voice.

I am here alone on the hardwood floor, the lights I shut down, the door I closed,
my body drenched in electric thirst and a dissipating cloud of hopeful, whispered overtures

One day as a young teenage girl, I drew my hand across my stomach and my skin flickered to new life
in a braille of goose flesh, begging to be read by a literate hand
my blood found a new place to pulse and swell and
my breath became fast, sweet and ready.
Twenty years have passed since that day
and tonight I am certain, I'm certain
That I have never touched another person's skin in that entire span
Not one time.

If could find some way to rise
To press "play"
If I could find some way to make it finally begin

A significant expression of distance and closeness - so human. Thanks for posting it.

I am duly impressed!

As an administrator of this writers' site, it falls upon me to oversee our forums to ensure that our new members are properly welcomed, that each one understands our guidelines, and answer any questions he/she might have.

I expected your post to be typical of my daily readings.  So, I began by quickly scanning your work, as my time is frequently limited.  After a cursory perusal of your first stanza and reading the first couple of lines of the second, I had to start over.

You got me.  I had to read it again in its entirety... twice..

Welcome to Passions in Poetry.  This is a wonderful place where people of all sorts and skill levels express themselves and share with readers from all corners of the globe.  I expect  your work will be well received at pipTalk, and I look forward to reading more.

Check your email for a special welcome..
