Sometimes Separations Seem Like Forever

In a clearing in the jungle
a man was putting his supplies away.
He had just erected his tent
and the night was well on its way.
While building a fire in which to cook a stew,
he felt alone so he thought of a woman he knew.
From the jungle he heard noises
some familar and some unknown
and then he noticed someone was approaching
upon the trail coming from San Simone.
It was a woman, a beautiful woman at that,
wearing tight khakis and a wide brimmed jungle hat.
As she drew closer he could clearly see her face.
It was then that he recognized this woman as his
first lover, that time & circumstance had erased.
There she stood as cute as ever, sweetly saying,
"I told you that we'd get back together."
He replied, "It certainly took awhile,
sometimes separations seem like forever."
That night they ate some stew and talked
of shared times from their shared past,
while in embrace we built upon the present
hoping this night wouldn't be our last.
Need I tell you, that in the morning she was gone,
it seems that she had appeared only in my dreams
and I had spent the night with no one in my arms.
Yet something within my spirit knew it to be true,
for upon the small table by the fire
were two half eaten cups of stew.
