It is not a place at all
but a little package of time
all tied up neatly
with your heartstrings
and placed in the window...
of home
and there it sits
looking pretty
but not always
what it once seemed.
It beckons you to return
as it fades farther
into the background
and youth disappears.
But in your heart you know...
You never can go home again.

An exquisite mind-sculpture of a past, word-captured as a fleeting moment, a feeling, a flavour, a scent . . . was it really there? . . . was I really there? . . . did I really see it? . . . hear it? . . . feel it? . . . touch it? . . . is it lost forever? . . . or is it engraved on my memory forever? Thanks to Ida, it is in this poem forever - the macrocosm of a life and microcosm of a teardrop, fashioned into this tiny, but magnificently sparkling gem. Ida, this is my current favourite of yours.
