I HAVE NEVER BEEN TO SAN FRANCISCO

I return
to the city
on a train
that is steered
by the men
who laid the tracks
a hundred years ago

I see their
dog before the earthquake faces
in old photographs
and on this afternoon’s cable car

at the top
of the hill
I stare
into a store window
and watch
the window dresser
make adjustments
so that I can see
my face
in the glass and
on the mannequin’s
faceless head

I am lost
in a slow tremble

the towers of my memory topple

my dreams have no skyline

I am mannequin calm

Excellent, somehow spooky.

Nice trip. Dug the scene. Peace.

This is different and certainly worth the read. Hope it's not a premonition,

"I see their

the whole work causes a certain mood
and I like it
