Winter

Had I known that the heart breaks
slowly and all at once
it's killing sharpness
dismantling itself
into unrecognizable shapes
I never would have.

Had I known that insignificance
could stifle the breath
and everything we had together
was worth nothing to him
I never would have loved.

He became my regret
like a murderer
running his fingers
down my spine
the brutal winter
that never warms
yet leaves only an emptiness
and a longing for my heart.

Your poem cuts to the heart, deeply expressive words of pain and regret.  Well done my friend, write on!

Dear Melissa that is such a heart rending

post that just tears one apart. Look around

for someone who will bring you joy and happiness. Good luck my dear.

And yet with love comes pain - lest we fail to feel at all.  We may we love again..

Nicely written, Melissa..
