Exhilarating, titillating-
Superlatives, it seems…
Compose the greatest portion
Of most other writers’ dreams.

Streets of gold, and wealth untold
They write of these in reams…
The stuff and texture, I suppose
Of other writers’ dreams.

Brilliant scarlets, deck the scene-
Topaz, and rose, and peach…
A million colors, maybe more-
Forever out of reach.

The scenes I paint, may seem quite quaint
The grays, the blacks, the blues…
A somber view, I guess that’s true-
I paint in muted hues.

Gray. The future I forsee -
I peer through mists it seems…
Black, the glances to my past-
And blue, my brightest dreams.

Why is this so? I do not know.
I paint those anguished screams…
That differ from the tinsel tints-
Of other writers’ dreams.
