The Other Man's Girl

Sometimes I pray for a turn of the page
if there's a chill on the air in the room.
I hear small voices surface their rage
but I'm hoping for some peace to touch you.

Sometimes I ride on a heavenly cloud
with the taste of your lips on mine.
I feel like you're an angel of love
and you're taking up all of my mind.

I know your feelings I've had them myself
we'll have to get them straight in time.
Someone hurt you and they hurt as well
but you've got to stop crossing the line.

If I'm not in love I know how it goes
I can't deny the past can be real.
I'm not afraid for the work that we've done
I'll wait til your faith can be healed.

Sometimes I look in your eyes and there're cold
but I'm learning how to bring you up warm.
I'm always willing to hear from your soul
because the other man left your heart torn.

Chorus
I know there's times when it's so hard to see
a heart on a limb in a forest of needs
but I keep my vision, my eyes on the world
I'm just saving a place for the other man's girl.

Every night I can't breathe all alone
since I've come to know close to your side.
The other forces we know how they go
they're as soothing as oil at the time.

Sometimes I wish for a miracle light
I wish that you'd let it shine in.
Sometimes I find that my thinking's not right
and the truth is behind me again.

But if I can revive the love that you hide
I know your heart'll take me right in
I'm not beyond the bare truth in time
if it hurts me I'll understand.

So if I'm not behind some hope in your mind
there's a chance you're second guessing my best,
cause I'm way beyond a mere compromise
someday I've got to put this to rest.

Sometimes I feel that the caution's untrue
sometimes I figure that I should rush in.
But I know it's a game I could lose
because I'm nothing like the other man.

Chorus
I know at times it's so hard to see
a heart on a limb in a forest of needs
but I keep my vision, my eyes on the world
I'm just saving a place for the other man's girl.

What a beautiful, compassionate poem, I think everyone has had some of these feelings at some time or an other.

It takes a great person to love another who has been torn apart by others.

I shuddered in your mirror, but I wanted you to know that I have been here (and there) and love you and your writing still.

I agree with serenity... to love someone who's been hurt... to love them enough to help them heal, even when the healing takes a long time and you catch the blame for someone else's sins... it takes a special person. *S* Wonderful write, my friend! *S*
