She never knew how much one could love
Or how much one could take
She never knew how much it would hurt
When she found out his love was fake

She never knew the way to his heart
But she was willing to try
She never knew that he would be
The one to make her cry

She never knew what friendship was
Only what she heard
She never knew what love was
Even after everything she’s learned

She never knew what she was missing
Because she locked herself away
She never knew what fear was
Until that horrifying day

She never knew what monsters were
Her parents would never tell
She never knew what rape was
Definition: an unforgiving Hell

She never knew this would happen
That he was only going to use her
She never knew that all he wanted was
To get her alone and abuse her

She never knew, she never knew
About monsters, rape, or pain
She never knew that a teenage girl
Could be used for a teenage boy’s game.

Writen for my friends and family.

This is one of those poems where words fail me.  The pain that this girl felt was well expressed and I could feel it too in a vicarious way.

That's how I felt when I first wrote it. It's not a message poem, but I gladly dedicate it to anyone who has felt a pain of sorts.

Hello Nicole, this is so sad, the poem has the right and gifted tone to unveil a tragedy that happens too frequently, may your words give some cure....Thanks for the poignant poem.

Welcome to Pip, dear Nicole Victoria!

You wrote well about one of the saddest experiences that can happen to a teenager and you succeeded in conveying compassion for the girl and disdain for the perpetrator.

Thank you for speaking up.

Love,
Margherita

Thank you all for the comments. I just felt that it was an important topic, and one that could convey the raw emotion that I was looking for. As a young writer, it makes me smile to know that my poems are worthy of the momentary glances of those you know what they are doing. Thank you again <3

I like how this poem had me thinking it was a beautiful, sweet young love expression, then the change towards the end to a most serious and painful topic.
Very cool twist (the writing, not the topic).

Your compassion for others is spot on.
Well done, Nicole. We think we might know
what others go through...but another's shoes
sometimes pinch, and we don't step long
in them.
