My cat brought me a present.
He caught a grasshopper.
Something he is apt to do...
nothing new
except that it is February.
I thought of that old fable
my mother told me,
when I was a child,
about the ant and the grasshopper
and I had to smile.
I guess the grasshopper
does get to play all winter
after all
unless he gets caught by a cat
who couldn't catch a rat.

Just some silly thoughts about a  grasshopper my cat caught last month.

I like when you put silly thoughts into poems.  Hug that kitty for me.

Hug the kitty AND the grasshopper for me.

Like the poem very much, and I know your precious kitty person meant well with his special present for you, but I feel for the darling little grasshopper.  However, he/she will now be in Heaven with Flicka and Daisy.

So cute, dear Ida, not silly! Enjoyed this and like Owl I feel for the grasshopper, but the cat's nature is "playful".

Today on the balcony where I sat for a while enjoying the warm sunshine, Zelda my cat, suddenly stirred and gave voice to her "hunter's cries" for a fly which dared to share space with her. But the fly was not caught, the sun had made Zelda too lazy.

Love and joy.

hehe...you have the same kind of cat I have. Mine (all 7) can catch lizards, iguanas, grasshoppers and '57 Chevys but a mouse or rat? Not a chance!

Actually, when I discuss this with them, they all give me the same response!

The last cat I had was a tiny little thing that looked like Gizmo, one of the Gremlins.  She would take on our labrador any day of the week, leave garden snakes on the doorstep, but I don't think I ever saw a mouse when we had her.  She must have kept them for herself.   LOL

This is whimsical and funny.  Loved it, Ida.

Dear Ida I enjoyed your tale about your cat.
We have an oriental cat, Simba by name, and

a much loved member of our household,
I think Michael's cat was quite rude giving

that one finger sign, but you know what the young ones are like today. love.

This brought back memories.  My cat brought me a present once, a live baby duck, not even hurt. He sat it down at my feet and it just got up and fluffed its little self and started waddling around We raised it and got a childrens wading pool for it and they were always friends. Nature is wonderful.
