          What a Smile Can Do

If you meet someone whose spirits are low,
One you know whose pleasures are few,
Give them a smile and then you will know
What the magic of a smile can do.

If someone is downcast & unhappy with life
As if they are the only ones bearing a cross,
Feeling sorry for themselves after being in strife
And ever ready to argue the toss.

Point out to them the good things they enjoy,
Perhaps change the way of their living style,
If unwilling to change, their soul it will destroy
But above all, give them a generous warm smile.

Perhaps in a dream you see a beautiful girl
With her face enhanced by a beautiful smile,
Then the dream falters & flutters & fades away
Like the mists on some Ithacan Isle.

A smile is something that sticks in your mind,
It’s like a tonic that you cannot adjourn,
You would like to see a stranger being so kind
By giving you something back in return.

When you walk down the street & give a stranger a nod
And in return a friendly smile might make its debut,
You naturally feel a warm feeling inside
For that is what a kind smile can do.

How right you are, Mate!
I mean,
how much does a smile cost?
But look how much value
the giftee gets!

Yo Lindsay,

No matter what, it's always a good idea to smile.  A smile will very seldom get you in trouble.

I smiled at a pretty girl and she smiled back,

then my wife slapped me.

(I still don't get it)

Smiles can be dangerous,  use them carefully.

Your friend, Tracey

Dear Lindsay,
nice to see you back with such a wise and beautiful poetic offering.

I have had "smile-experiences" (given and received) today while waiting at the doctor's studio. The tension diminishes and confidence grows.

So many "applications" for a smile!

Love and joy.

Lindsay!  I wish I had read this poem this morning.  I did a presentation today about smiling - how easy they are to share and how important they are to see.  I love this poem so much.

Now a smile is the shortest distance between two points, and it's only a thought away.  Generous hearts have smiled on me many times with tenderness, and I hope it comes back to them ten-fold!

I like this very much.
