Into Her Eyes

Cassandra, I didn't know
you were so beautiful
until we drifted apart
and you broke my heart
when you told me
that we were through
and then I didn't
know what to do
with the feelings
that were left behind,
those pieces of you
leftover in my mind.
Can we start over
and I'll be your friend,
just your friend
and not your lover,
hoping that we'll discover
the things we liked
about each other,
the special things
worth saving, so I
can look into your eyes
and understand the reasons why
we were first attracted
to each other.

Sometimes the one step backwards allows for two forward. Nice write James.

I have often wondered about "just be friends" upon the parting of lovers---having been married, or otherwise. Your verse, graced with meaningful rhyme, adds to the mystery of the question.

Dear James, this lovely poem has a perfectly harmonious flow. Really very very good.

Some seem to succeed in remaining good friends ...

Love,
Margherita
