The Moms and Dads
in the hood
don’t want their kids
hanging out with
little Bones.

They know how Bones
spends his nights,
and what he does
to earn some bread.

Moms tell there kids
to stay away from Bones,
tell them Bones
is no damn good at all.

Dads, well
they don’t mention Bones.

They pretend they don’t even know
there’s a kid named Bones
living in the hood.

They’re afraid of guilt
by association,
any association at all.

Bones is the most popular kid
in the hood for blocks around.

Bobby

Eloquent yes, dear Bobby. Poverty may impose painful choices. Though the Moms didn't want their kids to be close to Bones, the hood itself adopted him in a way.

Thanks Yann,

I'm very happy that the poem worked for you, and that you found it instructive.

As the last two lines note, Bones was very popular with the other kids because their parents wanted them to avoid Bones.

I think that's the way it always is.

Thanks dear Margherita,

What you say is true.  The hood did adopt Bones, and he was very popular with the other children.

I will tell you this.  The exclusionary attitude of the parents broke Bones heart at the time.

Nothing is ever as attractive as the forbidden. *S* But... I'm glad Bones has the friends, regardless of why they're there. *S*

Thanks dear Suthern,

What you say is true.  Yes, Bones friends mean a lot to him.  They are just like family.
