Puttin' It Away

There's no alarm in the morning
I can sleep, until I wake
No chores, unless I want to
And, no money left to make.

No more wishing, that I had things
If I don't have them, now
There's no sense in trying to learn
If I don't already know, just how.

I retired my old heart
And put my love away
Wondering, where my soul will go
When, it comes my judgment day.

No more dreaming of tomorrow
To look down that road, to see
Just knowing that I've traveled
As far, as, I'm going to be.

The sunrise is blinding
And my visions are a blur
And the full moon is scary
As I feel those ancient urges, stir.

I retired my old heart
And put my love away
Wondering, where my soul will go
When, it comes my judgment day.

The years are running down
As the seconds, tick, the clock
And the hours pass, so quickly
As I inventory, my stock.

The memories start to fade
And, all those faces, too
No wondering where I'm going
Or what, I'm going to do.

I retired my old heart
And put my love away
Wondering, where my soul will go
When, it comes my judgment day.

Yo Abe,

Never worry about your soul.  It always manages to do what it wants, and takes care of its own business.

Memories may fade but sometimes chance, paper and photographs keep a memory alive.

Brilliant, poignant finish.
