Another day older
And what do I have to show for it?

What will make me immortal?
Is it never dying,
Or the works I create
Like busy ants
Building, always building
Moving ever in vain
In their doomed mounds
To be destroyed by whim
Of Nature or Man,
Or by their own hand

Pitiless time marches on
Cruel Fate, and even crueler Hope
Gathers me along with everyone
In its tightening grip
Some few slipping between fingers
Postponing the inevitable
Only pausing briefly
Until falling faster,
They hit the ground suddenly
And then what does it all matter?

Just another day older
And still,
What do I have to show for it?

You know when you get older you start to think of this seriously, and it finally hits that it does matter.  Everything you do matters to you or someone else.  It is what you do with the time you have been loaned that really will keep one immortal.  You learn eventually it is not what you are, what you have, or what hat your wear.  Instead, it is all about what you give away, the memories you make, and those are the immortal moments in our time.  It is the love of your surroundings, and fellow man that in the end, sustains the lonely.

Well done!

No doubt we do ponder such questions every now and then, especially in the presence of a loss. Sharon is right, I agree with her thoughts.

We are so much more than what we think we are ... I believe in the immortality of the soul. We are here to learn to love and every experience matters and will help us to awaken to true spiritual awareness.

Thought provoking write, well done!

Love,
Margherita
