There is a fork in every path way.
As we tread life’s rocky road.
One branch leads us to adventure…
One to death’s dismal abode.

One well lit and lined with flowers-
While the other’s dark and steep.
One quite often rings with laughter,
While the other’s travelers weep.

There’s no road map to be purchased-
Nor a sign post to be read.
So at each and every forking…
I tend to pause and scratch my head.

This poor fool’s sense of direction,
Has quite often led me wrong.
Too oft I’ve walked through sorrows valleys-
And the way was rough and long.

It seems I’ve missed the road to riches-
Me, a simple country boy-
Find myself down in the ditches…
Where you seldom find much joy.

But the path lies out before me…
Ready for my itching feet-
From the very jaws of victory-
I can always snatch defeat.

John,

When I read your poetry, I just lean in and enjoy it.  I savor the rhyme and meter and stories that you tell.  I enjoy the messages and life stories.  You are a wonder to me.  I love your poetry.

....From the very jaws of victory-
I can always snatch defeat....

I feel your pain.
Thanks for the read.
