"When did you forget?
Love is simple."

My young self, five years old and blonde,
told me, currently with broad shoulders
auburn hair and barely in my twenties.

I asked the little guy
how he knew so much about love,
seeing as he wasn't even in kindergarten.

He told me this:

"Love is simple.
It's a juice box and cookies
that you're willing to share.

It's a game of doctor
full of questions we don't need to ask
why we're so different shaped
different sized.

It's a nap
with a dream
about the only girl you know
who probably doesn't have cooties.

It's a crayon love letter
with check mark boxes left open
will you be my girlfriend?

Love is simple
it'll find you,
just keep a juice box on hand
and some cookies just in case."

Keep on sharing these "weird moods".  Love is sharing your favorite coloring book and letting the other person pick out the first color of crayon.  My best friend came from the first grade - and that's what we did.  It works for all people.

Thank you for starting my day with this poem.

Passing Shadows... You're a doll. I'd say Legend gets to eat about 10% of all sandwiches I make. We're good people.

Aliboohummingbird, thanks for reading my poems in the first place. You never fail to sniff them out and comment on them. Hope your day goes well.

Neat writing, Viking.  I tried the checkmark boxes thingie.  It didn't work.  Of course, I was older when I tried it, and I didn't actually use "girlfriend" .  Who knew it actually mattered?  Apparently, not me.

Oh, how you made me smile. Yes, love was simplier at 5. But if you get lucky, you can find moments of simplicity as an adult.
As for me, I am getting out my cookies and juice boxes to share..... some with the "kiddies" (the truest love of all) and some for after the "kiddies" go to bed. Hopefully, I will have some "crumbs" in bed......lol
Beautiful imagery.

How lovely, I missed it the first time around. If we keep love simple we allow it to remain whole and to expand, if we make it all complex it might dissolve into fragments and dissolve ...
Now, you see, you made me think!

Very nice really.

Love,
Margherita
