The old barn lantern still is hanging
From a nail high on a post
Down below the cellar door
In view of centipede and ghost

Rust has claimed the bright red paint
That once adorned this empty lamp
Left to hang there on a post
A prisoner to the dark and damp

Yet it never was discarded
Nor unhooked from off the post
For it congers up the memories
Of the times we cherish most

This old lamp lit up the kitchen
On the nights of  wicked storms
Lighting up my father’s face
With shades of bronze, so rich and warm

Warmer were his boyhood stories
Made more real by a tattered wick
Filling little eyes with mystery
More than any candle stick

I’ve forgotten all the stories
But embedded in my mind
Is the light from this old lantern
From the days we left behind

WOnderful imagination, Liz! For those who claim there is nothing to write about, you have shown that there's always something...just have to use the imagination. Yours is one of the best....as you keep proving, time after time.

Yup another Lizzism, pulled out of a hat in all of 3 minutes I bet.  I wish I could say I shared memories like those, they would truly keep one warm.
