When you call to say you're coming home,
my heart goes straight into rapid mode,
I think of the things I need to do
before you turn in the drive from the road.

I dust, vacuum, wash dishes; I light
scented candles and put fresh coffee on,
I bathe and shave, smooth on lotion,
admire, in the mirror, the silkies I don.

I dash on blush and fix my hair,
put a log on the fire and a roast in the oven,
I draw a hot bubble bath for you,
pull down the sheets, ready for lovin'.

When I hear the air brakes on the truck
I get all tingly and can't stop the smile,
jump in your arms when you open the door,
so happy you'll be home for awhile.

thanks Susan and Paul

When living in a truck for 2 or 3 weeks at a time and being home only 2 days in between, it gets to feelin' like home is just a place where you sleep and eat and shower, like a hotel that you visited before. I try my best to make him feel like he belongs here, not just as a guest.

Dixie,

You know ... sometimes I just can't express what I feel.  This is one of those times.  I have been holding this poem close since I read it yesterday.  I love it.

Now THAT is the kind of "Welcome Home" every man would love to have!

You sound so happy, Darlin' Dixie! I'm smiling from ear to ear!

Oh, and btw, your book has arrived!

You have done a wonderful job, dear Dixie, both at home and in poetry. This is a "feel-good-read", it is stimulating, it is warm and it sounds very real.

Brava!

The picture symbolizes the perfect anticipation of putting the feet upon familiar ground.

Love,
Margherita

wow! thank you, thank you! All of you!

I'm glad you all enjoyed this, and are standing behind me after so many years of sadness you have read of me before.
