She rocked my slowly and said
Remember this as a word to the wise

Since he wouldn't take the time to love
time simply went on without him

Having never seen the need to bridle his wandering heart
He never had time to apologize
Or the desire desire to  create memories that loved ones would want to cherish
There was never time to write I love you's on little pieces of paper
No time to call on birthdays or anniversaries
Not even time enough to speak kindly if he happened upon you on the stairs
He never had the time to remember things promised long ago
And no desire to do things differently
On he went with no apologies, no time, and no good reason

When it's all said and done
No time for no good reason at all
is reason enough

Since he never took the time
Time went on its way
and so did we

If I don't say it...who will?

I am really moved by the two-edged truth in this.  The loss of what could have made life more beautiful and the spirit that motivates us to learn and move beyond the loss and the "years the locust have eaten."

This is gripping and painful as well as strong and resilient writing, depicting another sort of winter.  ~ KL
