Humans are leaves
destined to fall.
Scraped into piles
placed in garbage bags,
laid to rot into compost
our memories feeding the
pure and new little trees
from which
more leaves shall fall.

Humans are leaves
on this tree of a world
we bud, grow, and depart
all in separate seasons,
generations
and scatter to places unseen,
holding our lively color
for only a short while.

Decomposing, are we?   I think we'd better make life count while we still can.  When I leave, this space shall be as if I'd never been.  For who will remember me in the next century?  Not even my offspring.

Indeed, but the leaves that went from bud to green to red and yellow, then faded at the same rate as you, will treasure your impact for the entirety of their short lifespans.

And while we are here, hopefully, we share our brilliant colors and make music in the breeze.  I love this, Paul, but what is the surprise in that.  I love your poetry.

I simply love this poem. It's just like you said, humans are leaves that bud, grow, depart. They also leave something to start a new generation. It's an outstanding and my favorite poem.

Naturegirl, thanks so very much! It's true, so we best use what we have going for us, eh?

Cleverly captured!
Made me think of all the colors; rust, to rose, yellow to gold~ we blush upon this world...hopefully leaving a blissful mark or two.

Aw!  Paul, Thank you, then I hope there will be a few, for I keep a scrapbook memory of golden leaves, too.

Yo Paul,

No matter how you count it, every born human being is so much more than that.

We are, and we aren't. I think I'm underestimating humans, and you're underestimating leaves. See what I'm saying, bobby old friend?
