Lumpy oatmeal makes me crazy!

(Present)

I don’t have any wisdom
Is really all I want to say.
Just try to make each day last
Don’t let time get pushed away.
The parties are just minefields
With bonfires, some pot and booze
A decision you make while drunk
When sober, you’d rarely choose.

I don’t have any wisdom
You’ll plug your ears while you can
You do not care what I think
The years bridge us like a span
Do not give yourself away
Always strive for what you want
Or images skip behind you
With laughter in every taunt.

(Past)

You don’t have any wisdom?
I listen to what you say
I know you are my future
I choose what to do today
I listen to words you speak
They pour out my other ear
I see your lips are moving
I listen - but I don’t hear.

I wish I cared, but I don’t
My dream is to be like you
You got out and you moved on
And I don’t know what to do
If you could reach out your hand
And spin the fingers of time
Maybe then, my ears would hear
Something more than empty rhyme.

So go on back where you live
Someday I might see you there
Set things up and make things right
Perhaps, then I’ll learn to care.

Alison, I have thoroughly enjoy reading this trilogy. This last one, was not only cleverly written, it really struck a strident chord in my heart. ~ Actually, several chords!

Well done! Oh, and by the way, there is something charming about the past you and the present one!

Love you!

hello Alison, this is my preferred one of your splendid letters trilogy, I like the dichotomy between present and past and the way you adress to yourself, this is a great idea that will inspire some people I guess, I think of me....

have a nice day

Thank you for your response on my poem. I haven't had many lately and it made my day.

I went through and read your poems and did enjoy them to say the least.

As always,

Beautifully captured.

What I love most about your work, is I know you really put all you have into the words you write.  I slack off sometimes because I have to find inspiration these days, but you dear Alison, use your heart and it works!  Beautifully done.

Thank you, Linda.  Balladeer made me dig and this is what I came up with.  That's why there was a trilogy...I kept digging.  Anyway, thank you for reading and being my sister.

I listen - but I don’t hear.

Isn't that often the treatment good advice receives, regardless of the source? *S*

These letters have really touched me... it takes courage to know one's self and here you show a deep understanding for both who you are now and who you were then.

When I read, I look for poems that touch me, that make me feel, that make me think... this series is a home run on all counts. *S*
