treading lightly,feet sloshing
through slowly melting snow,
now on icy slides
engineered by boisterous children
on shaded unused alleys,
through uniform suburban streets,
turning right,past schools
then left,now viewing
open vistas,fields,hedgerows,
century old holly,glistening
in bright winter sun,
walking faster,feet finding
compacted snow,squeaking underfoot,
wood pidgeons,like pale
puffed meringues,cling grimly
to icy hawthorn branches,
goldfinches liquid call,landing,
decorating bare trees like
tiny feathered christmas baubles,
powder snow slowing us,
horses graze,shetland ponies,
raggedey long coats protecting
against winters fierce chill,
downy muzzles,sniffing delicately
for hidden titbits,finding
none,nibbling gloves hopefully,
colder now,sun departing,
we turn,reluctant to
leave this winter haven,
retracing our steps slowly,
a robin sings farewell.

Maybe they are heading up my way so I can say hello to them.  I like this poem a lot ... love the images that you shared with us.
