Love is a grand and wondrous thing
until it turns to face the fire
for in the turn it loses face
and stands as a woman shamed.

There is no light from eyes downcast
and never can there be a smile
when viewing only solid ground
unyielding like the unfeeling.

Love shamed is like a cloud oer-lay
that forever keeps the sun at bay
and we know humiliation like a plague
seeks out and then destroys.

No laughter comes from out the form
and no echo issues oer the hills
because, because, love turned one day
and faced lifes raging fire!

You have never written more truer words than these, Helen. Humans are a strange species. We can date, go with, shack up with, for ten years and then one day, and most of the time it can be traceable to the marriage vows, one of the other, or even both parties suddenly find things about their lovers that they never saw during the ten years they were together. Mind-blogging.

Thanks, Jerry.  Love really is a problem because not only does it sometimes hide bad things but sometimes it also highlights the good and then we are ... lost perhaps just until the next time we see the bad but either way for a time we are lost.

Enjoyed your write.
A good lesson in this verse.
Let not your love turn to shame.
What ever you can do to protect it,
do it.

Enjoyed, as always, Helen.

Thanks, JL, for the read and for the lesson.  No one can protect love except love itself.  Well, it's just that sometimes it seems to be an entity unto itself free to come and go at will because when it wants to go it simply goes with or without my blessing.  But who knows really.

All the light it once cast snuffed... I really like this... you write wisely and leave us pondering. *S*

Helen, nothing 'deep' for me to say about this poem.  Just that you made me stop and think as I read.  I appreciate the perspective that you shared - and I appreciated the responses too.

Thank you
Alison

Thanks Ruth and Alison for so kindly reading and for commenting.  I don't have anything deep to say now either - time off I reckon.
