he was more loyal with his dog fight blindness
than a thousand sheila grahams were
in their tapioca flavored lipsticks
and those smooth places they kept graded
above average in their own monotone calculations

when the leather chair would sigh in evening
he would become another arm chair armor
draping his battleground over my knee
and looking for demons in his dreams
the twitching of his immortal hooves

as he galloped, steed, not hound, across the lane
and was ravenous with his torturing howl
as if he knew the banshees before they spoke
and could drown out their musical grown
to have his hurry back attention rewarded

not by the dubbing of knighthoods unsheathed
but by just a grip of fir on ravaged mane
then a sip of whiskey from his hubcap goblet
the lapping was choired vikings pounding swords
and then a stop to wag his crooked coat of arms

before returning to a search of his fading sun

This is an example of why I am so attracted to poetry that sometimes I read it, and dismiss what I should be doing...according to the world.

Knighthood isn't needed for such loyal protectors and companions... I love this, DS!!
