you mentioned tiptoes and baby steps
said the water was warm and inviting
but you didn't know how deep it was
and would I go in ahead of you slowly

I reached back often to make you swim
but your eyes dove in beyond my wanting
and I felt you swimming around under
then up and into my soul like sunlight

there were stepping stones in our ocean
you said they were funny to jump onto
and then off of again, where my arms were
and you called them love tree safety

and left your dress high up on my eyes

I just literally laughed out loud...I have been itching to write a series of mermaid poems...and just don't have the right feel for it yet....but you're right...nothing is sacred...and they are in terrible, terrible danger...LOL
