Lumpy oatmeal makes me crazy!

Asthma

It is scary
to struggle
for air
Each breath
a battle.
Fighting to inhale.
Wheezing
Trying not …
(Oh God!)
… not to panic
While being so
damn scared.
Crying
just makes it
worse, you know
(do not cry -
just don’t cry!)
Be calm.

Calm.

Take time to relax
and take slow
shallow breaths.
Try not
to be afraid
and just remain
calm.

Dear Alison, you have described an asthma attack vividly - both my hubby & I were asthmatics as children & our daughter. So frightening to see your child struggling for air & the panic on their face (thank god she has also grown out of it like us)
~hugs~ to you sweetie.

Sweet Alison, I felt constricted while reading your poem. You conveyed the agony of those moments powerfully. I am so sorry to hear this.

Love and hugs.

Thank you all.  Asthma is ... well, this was the worst attack I have had and it was pretty scarey.  No more hauling wood when the temp is -35.

Hauling wood with a temperature of -35 C°? Gosh, that is unimaginable!! I left my beloved Switzerland because I couldn't tolerate the low temperatures of - 20 C°, it felt horrible it was as if my heart had cramps and I felt unable to breathe. But I adore Winter and snow and ice ... and I miss it all.
May you find the right healing method and may you never again experience such frightening moments.
Love and hugs.

Ahh, this reminds me of my father and his battle with emphysema. Calm being the key word, when you're struggling to breath, sometimes there is no calm...

sending hugs!

I ached for you with every word, dear friend... I've never had asthma, but have had whooping cough and pneumonia and both have given me a glimpse of the desperation and burning lungs and face-your-Maker-fear that comes from being unable to draw a breath! I hope you don't face another attack so severe... take care of you... you are treasured. *S*

Dear Alison,

Indeed your poem is fine
As it describes asthma
And all its complications
Really it explains finely

You have also given remedy
Which let a soul follow
I pray for those afflicted
May God help them bear

Yours prayerfully,

Alison, I am so sorry to hear of your latest and scariest asthma attack.  I was holding my breath while reading it - only realised when I finished reading it.  I don't know how it feels from my own experience as I am never sick, and have never had, nor seen an asthma attack, but your poem took me there.  Glad you are being woman-wise about its cause!

Relieved smiles and hugs
Owl
