         evening prayers
          and miracles

she has a smile and eyes
that shame the sun
and moon of star-field
   splendor.

she has a heart wide and deep
as the vast-eternal sea
and a spirit that shall fill
the boundless universe.

I have but gossamer poet-dreams
and humble words of infinite
   fragility,
too easily lost to rain or tears,
with which to try and chase
any cold and darkness of the past
left by other kinds of men than I.
I pray … that she may truly
  ‘see’ me.

These are truly the words of a poet. This was my first read back in a long while, and I am glad I started here.

Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting, "WHAT A RIDE

a beautiful prayer deeply felt.

It just doesn't get any better than this, Bruce. This is what poetry is ( or should be) all about.

Sometimes what we have to offer seems to be so little in face of what's needed and deserved...  we give all we have and all we are, but still need a miracle. I pray you get your miracle.  Beautiful write! *S*
