Another Day

The sun was rising, shining bright,
As I awoke this morning.
The air felt fresh as dawn’s delight
Overcame me without warning.
“How magnificent is really is
Just to be alive,” I thought.
I sat up to hear an evil hiss
Reassure me it is not!

I could expand my business,
A few extra bucks might be nice…
But then, spending them alone is
Never really worth the price.
I could stay home and mow the lawn,
Maybe pull weeds in the garden.
A million thoughts in my head drawn –
Not one would grant me pardon.

I can feel it in the gloaming –
In the melting of the skies…
The preternatural roaming
Of those disenchanted eyes.
No, the winds of Death are blowing
With a distant bell’s toll,
That whispers of darkness glowing
And Silence chaining the soul.

And while “I sure hope you feel better”
Is just something people say,
The fact I cannot forget her
Has cost me another day…
Now the inclination strikes me
Like a pockmark on the sky,
Within the eyes, I see it’s true,
All I’ve left to do is die.

And so the melody dies away,
As I yet hum the tune…
While in the distance, shadows play
With a vision fell to ruin.
I hear the calling whippoorwill,
(Dusk rising to claim the sky);
Still can’t be sure just what to feel,
Sometimes I laugh – mostly I cry.

And there I see his outstretched hand,
As, once more, Time holds me still.
Though I know you’d never understand
The force that lies beyond this will.
The music lulled, in softest sway,
I watch as the sun lets go.
Knowing tomorrow holds another day,
Just not for me, this time, I know.

Michael Anderson

I strike! It quivers in that heart
Which drives me to this end;
I draw and kiss the bloody dart,
My last-my only friend!

One needs to just practice not hearing the negative, and block it out with the positive.  I think we have all been awakened by that "hiss."     I know I sure was, and 3 times!

Good one!

"Knowing tomorrow holds another day,
Just not for me, this time, I know."

The strength of mind of true faith.
Enjoyed the read, as always,
you make it all-enjoyable.

Another day, another day, another day... You told me one time, that time will pass, regardless of how I feel about it.  There is hope and love and understanding on that horizon, hon.

Such power you have in your poetry.  You really reach into me and just grab.

Dear Michael, it's so sad that so often we do not succeed in keeping that first-sacred-moment-of-dawnbliss alive within our core. You certainly describe the effects of negative thoughts that grab us most powerfully.

Ah, Michael, I was being pulled here tonight,
and saw a few poems that struck my heart.
Yours being among them, for so many, many
reasons.

Thank you, my friend...
for all that you share.

I am so deeply grateful that you are back.

Mysteria, yeah, that hiss gets me more often than I care to admit.  Practice, practice, practice!

JL, glad you enjoyed.

Nicole, thank you for the reminder

Alison, better watch out… I can be dangerous once inside.

Margherita, yeah, dawn used to be almost sacred to me.  Kinda of sad that it’s lost that within me.

K. I’m grateful for your friendship.  I treasure it more than even your poetry.  Don’t worry about me, I ain’t going anywhere.

Oh, sweet friend... it's not just something people say when they mean it with all their hearts. *S* I hope better days are headed your way... very soon and many, many of them!! That evil hiss has ruined far too many dawns and days and dreams!! Exceptional write... as always! *S*

That evil hissss ... gets the best of us every time. I guess it's learning to cancel it out with the opposite, Praise! though not an easy thing to do. Hope this makes sense.
