I have been the man:the seventh son
I have been the fool: goofy and fun
I have been the rain: tears streaming down
I have been the jest: from a small town
I have been the coil: twisted and turned
I have been the bars:street-wise learned
I have been the bird: currents to glide
I have been the briar: filled with pride
I have been the hero: or so it did seem
I have been the king: grandiose dreams

          Woulda, coulda, shoulda

I survived the lance: outrun them all
I survived the tempt: some I did fall
I survived the battle: I have the scars
I survived the lights: though a film star
I survived the growl: my throat is raw
I survived the ardor: her low-cut bra
I survived the crash: just inward hurts
I survived the crave: swishing skirts
I survived the years: without a key
I survived the child: that would be me

It was a hell of a ride

I have lived to now: and now I am old
I have lived to love: I've yet to mold
I have lived to find: a woman mine
I have lived to live: and she is fine

I wish everybody in the world could be as happy as I am

I saw this earlier on my train ride into NYC ...and loved itinstantly. Poems within poems and celebration of who you are...cheers, Mr. Pat!

Thanks, Baby Girl. What part of New York. I used to live there.

This would make a really great song.     I read one side, then the other, then together - and thoroughly enjoyed every aspect.

I never really thought of it as a song, but you are right, it could be made into a song. I did what you did, read one side and then the other, somehow it didn't do it for me, I imagine because when I wrote it I was so engrossed in making the second line be in line with the first I cant separate. Thank you for you very kind world, Nicole.

~born on NY's upper west side...I'm out in the suburbs now...leading the good life...but I am a city girl at heart...and you can take the girl out of the city....but every chance I get...I go home.

I used to hang out in the Village, but lived in Flushing and then Lynbrook, L.I. I loved the city in those days, but would probably hat it down. I got part of my education there, and I'm not talking about classroom education. Married a half Italian wop, half Jew.Met her in LA, we survived the Watts Riots and moved back to NY.
