I should not have let my dreams
Distort stark reality,
For now it certainly seems
Fruition can never be.

I guess that I’ll never learn
The uselessness of trying.
I am stuck here with this yearn,
Face all crumpled from crying

But no! enough is enough!
I’m locking my heart away!
Living hollow might be tough
But maybe somehow, some way,

I can learn how to exist
Without letting myself care.
I’m tired of being dismissed -
No one wants what I would share.

I will hide behind façade...
Masking me throughout the years,
Until I am under sod.
I vow to cry no more tears.

I'll pretend that I'm plastic,
Lacking soul and emotion.
Will you notice the drastic
Absence of my devotion?

I think I've ceased to exist.
She's captured your attention.
I am sure I'll not be missed -
Or even rate your mention.

I can't drag this on and on
Hoping you will look my way.
Come the morning, I'll be gone -
Even though I ache to stay.

If this is reality, suthern, I say to you, don't go locking anything away. Just live for the moment. Let the moment come to YOU. Seize it at the proper time. As corny as it sounds, true love is just around the corner.

You have two choices in life:
You can stay single and be miserable,
or get married and wish you were dead.

You know, good poetry goes beyond the one who writes it.  It speaks to many because the poet understands emotion or beauty or nature or humor or tragedy.  Your poem catches my heart and allows me to say, "I  have been there."

Sure, I hope it is not about you in the present - but, if it is, I hope that writing this poetry is a purge.  The poem stands alone.  It's good.

Love you

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This makes me feel so sad because I feel it far beyond your words.
It is also a timely reminder that the choices we make
are ours alone, and to waste another moment that often run
into days is pointless.  The goodness and the love in our hearts
is truly who we are, we can't dress it up or take away the best parts
of ourselves because no one ever noticed....yanno! It's an opinion that isn't worthy of your heart.
Southern gal, I love the way you write and the feelings I get when reading you.
You're just beautiful!!
Oh sweet suthern, you broke my heart in two.
Wow!  This really hurts deep.  Love the write, hate the write.  I'm going to print it out and tear it up, and say "NO...No...no!
This poem is written with such intensity that it seems to jump off the monitor to hit the core of the heart so hard.
Dear Ruth, your loving heart is too precious and uniquely beautiful to be locked away! It has been hurt and that is ever so sad, but now it's in special need of your own love. To love and hug ourselves in such moments is the best thing we can do.
This speaks powerfully to all those, and I fear there are many, too many, who have experienced a broken heart.
May the seeds of pure love that are everpresent in every heart, sprout beautifully and may they never again be tramped over!
Excellent write!
Love,
Margherita
You dug deep to get this one out Ruth, and it is worth the hunt it took, poignant, and so true for many.
Happy New Year.
We meet only here and in moonbeams, my friend, but believe me, come morning, if you were gone, a chunk of me would also have left.
And we all go on~~~  as those who have said it before, I can relate.
I know so many will say to not give up or in to loneliness but sometimes  just accepting what is can bring one peace, and then  to share with  others who also  feel the  same whether old or young can make one feel fulfilled.
Always  great to read you,
The ache in this is so palpable to the page...the beauty in mastering the gift of writing...finding the right words to marry to emotion....is the purely cathartic release the author experiences when the right balance is struck. This is a sad and soulsearching piece....write on, poet.
This is one of the most heartwrenching poems I have ever read... probably moreso at the thought of someone I care for so much having penned the words.  ((hugs)) to you, Ruth.  Know that I will be here for you any way I can.
so far I just want to send ~hugs~ to everyone here tonight ~hugs~ dear one I don't think it's in your nature to become the person you portray in this piece, you are way too caring & a sensitive soul.
Hello sweet friend, hope you are doing fine. I think you have been "gone" for too long already ... We miss you. May this New Year unfold beautifully for you and may you be able to see and perceive yourself as the miracle you are. Do not allow your heart to "atrophy", that is not God's idea and it wouldn't please Him, He wants you in full bloom.
Hugs, dear Poetess.
My friends,
If I tried to give the individual responses that each of your wonderful responses deserve, I'd turn into a blubbering fool within a few sentences and need several more weeks to recover.... and I've blubbered my foolishness enough already. *S* The support and love you've given me both here and off the forums has been both humbling and healing. Without spilling still more of my guts onto these blue pages, I'll simply say... into despair and depression, you lowered a lifeline of love for both me and my words... and I grasp it gratefully. I thank you all... but would be seriously remiss if I didn't send special thanks to Alison. Your heart is even bigger than the state you call home. Again, to all... my heartfelt thanks.
Darling friend,
I knew you could not be gone -- we love you far too much to let you disappear.  One thing I have learned about PIP is it truly is a home without walls.  Welcome home.  I missed you.
With love,
Alison
This poem is like a good country song, a ballad if you will, that has
Played in the hearts of many people.
Many will relate to it. Some who read it will be the one that has caused the pain.
I believe it should be put to music, maybe add a sad refrain..'cause sometimes the spoken word need be raised to a different level...to have the greatest effect, when the spoken word will not suffice.
Don't get me wrong, it is sad, but beautiful as a poem.
Ruth, I have read your poem many times, but wasn't able to reply because it was filled with so much agony and suffering.  I couldn't bear that somebody had done this to you and I could only wait, as I said in one or both my emails to you since this poem, until you were back and breathing free.  It is so lovely to have you back and to know that you are healing.
Love and hugs
I appreciate that thought, ice, and thank you for it and the rest of your kind words... but that's a song I wouldn't want to hear. LOL Truth is, I would probably give way to my embarrassment at having bled onto these blue pages and have this removed... if not for the incredible and generous responses people have given. I may regret my words but treasure and embrace the love and support. *S*
Alison, Owl & Sunshine: Thank you, sweet ladies... I so appreciate you... so very, very much! *S*
