Words Unheard

~Ruth Kephart~

Call my words a string of pearls
Draped round the necks of jean clad girls
Whose luster fails to keep the sheen
Though well strung out and polished clean

And doubt the truth whose image lays
Beyond the spoiled crystal glaze
That litters shelves of history books
We seldom give a second look

We build our monuments to man
Yet seldom lend a helping hand
And shut blind eyes to travesty
Enthralled in our own dynasty

So let these words fall on deaf ears
And with the passing of the years
They’ll fade, they’ll crumble, desecrate
They may be heard, though much to late

Let war, defiance, greed, and hate
Pride and money seal our fate
And in the rubble, these words entombed
“Without some change, the world is doomed”

I am nothing special...and my name will soon be forgotten, but I've loved another with all my heart and soul, and to me,this has always been enough.~N.S

I don't know who made the request... but I'm glad they did! This is excellent, hoot... and it's good to see your name here!

A lot of upheaval going on. The Middle East seems like it is going to be worse than it was. Here in America I see much need for change, but the socialized America that our protesters seem to desire would, as in the Middle East, be worse for us. I liked your poem and the hope it conveyed. We shall see what we shall see.

Wow, Ruth.  I have not read you in so many years... and then you grace us with this.  Magnificent, powerful, and sadly, 100% true.  I'm not sure when you wrote this, but I thank you deeply for sharing it with us.

I have to echo Michael and Suthern... I'm glad that someone requested that you post, and it's been so many years.  Your words ring true; there definitely needs to be a change.  It's good to see you posting.

Me, I'm just glad to have read it ... for any reason.  Wonderful piece my friend, and like others, seems forever since I read you last.

Much enjoyed.
