In an instant immeasurable
The lever of Atlas
Tilts our world on its axial,
A far as it can
Away from the sun:
*
Gold gears turn on jewel pins
The clock again, starts its round
Following the curve of cosmic bend;
Stopping for an-atomic moment
Where a new year begins,
From the same-exact point
Where it last year began.
*
I am put half asleep, the eve of this;
*
Chloroformed by the soaked rag of a daydream
The distilled friction-steam made
When life's essence is pressed osmotic
Through passing time membranes'
To condense in the cells of the brain.
*
High on narcissus-and bright pansy faces
Carried in bunches by cotton dressed woman,
Some old, some young, some middle, all riding
On clock-hands, that move me towards oblivion...
*
In illusion, I see times appatite
A chimera that nibbles the edges of dark,
Overpowering-devouring it, minute
By minute, its teeth grinding incessant
Making winters shadow grow bright
As it moves towards a different
Equal light station
Where medallions of coltsfoot
Poke gold through snow,
Redesigned
By the prosess of melting.
*
My dreams float on spring-rain rivulet's
Onward down the sluice of time,
Reaching a vacuum in need of fill,
Where I rest until winters void overflows
Before moving on,
Towards a different equinox ritual.

There are so many musical words in this poem; I love how they sound when I read it out loud.  I'm sure my imagination butchered the meaning or feeling, but I had such an image of a great clock-work universe inside of a snow globe.  I felt like the quiet observer.  Your last stanza really brings it home... I truly enjoyed this.

Damn, Ice, but you went deep, as in "deep" for this solstice rendering. You had me looking up word, scratching my head, patting my foot and generally having a damn good time with the meandering of this poem. Great writing, Sir!

Wow! Dear Ford, this just blows me away into a moment of mystical perception ... beyond time and space, despite our being anchored in the relentless change which works as a parameter for the passing of time.

Deserves a second read of course and is saved!

Ohhh my. As I am irrepressibly drawn to anything steampunk....and your poem opens with such a huge ticking of those gears....I could barely breathe the rest of the way in....breathtaking in scope and color and depth.

I just got my computer back from the shop.
Having been only able to reply to replies on a laptop, which drove me nuts because of the finger mouse thingy.

I have it back now, and just wanted to thank all of you for your wonderful comments....:-)
