know this, that as surely as i
know the sparrow as it flies; i love you.
somewhere in the silence
are your dark eyes; black as pebbles,
soft, round stones i clasp tightly to my breast.
you are the path i moved along
in my young yesterdays,
tree-lined and smelling of jasmine.

know that i sat, a dream fallen from good-bye,
a study in imperfection,
yet you smile, and it is home
and you string my tears to show me rainbows.
how flat my world was with its
colors in two dimensions,
a swatch
a windless flag
and oh how it fattened up, round and full as the moon
white and shining in the dark night.

my heart feels like a leaping thing,
a tremor in the palm of your hand.
i know that the sparrow flies on your winds,
and i breathe them in gasps.

What stands out is this , , ,

"my heart feels like a leaping thing,
a tremor in the palm of your hand."

I know that feeling quite well and it is not something that I like.

Quite a poem of love and despair, and sometimes hopelessness, which sometimes go hand in ankle.

I almost copied the entire poem because each and every line is fantastic... but these define for me the difference between alone and loving... and how one person can change your world just by being.

Beautiful, beautiful, leaves me breathless beautiful!!

Which verse…
should be called astonishment?
For the one that is, is but a shadow
to them all…
How could something so piercing
be silent?
This is the sound of “Silent Devotion.”

Love the way you write!!
Very enticing.
Suthern said it: "Beautiful, beautiful."
Yep!!

Wow, Nicole, do you ever get tired of me telling you how amazing you are?  You have a way of stirring things in me I thought were dead.  Truly stunning, and more in a hand-in-hand type of way.

colors in two dimensions,

a windless flag
All I can say is ditto!

Jerry - Oh it absolutely can be a terrible feeling; it is a very vulnerable moment.  Only in the wrong hands though.

Margherita - Thank you very much!

ice - What a lovely thing to say, thank you

suthern - There is nothing quite like home, is there?  That's the crux of it... "just by being"... exactly

JL - Your reply was beautiful!  I've lost my words, trying to express my gratitude.

Michael - hand in hand, indeed... you and your ditto.     I'm so pleased you like it.

perfectly written, I particularly loved the last stanza

This is sublime.  I had a moment of jealousy as I wished I had written this (or was capable of writing this!).

Than you for sharing it.

A fine poem to welcome in a new year, such love and devotion, such description and phrasing and beauty almost beyond words..but you managed it with ease, enjoyed your lovely poem...thank you for it..
