The past just sits there
in the corner of forgetting
and hums an old song.
He swings his foot
and taps his fingers.
He pretends that he
is not fading away.
I have the pleasure
of ignoring him
in a rather sensible fashion,
having been down that road before.

Ida. Ida. Ida. One of your best. So much related in so few words. The past, different for us all, but for those who actually have a "past" that needs forgiveness this poem was written for. Excellent!

What a creative way to deal with the past, dear Ida!

O the past it is like that isn't it?
so much in so few words brings the reader
to feel that old ghost inside of us

I love this, Ida, especially the personification and the ambiguity and the cleverness of it.  I see the wry smile on your face as you wrote it.

I love all of this, but especially these lines... for it IS pleasure to finally be able to ignore... to have healed to that point. *S*
