Every so often it all comes rushing back.
Tonight is one of those times . . .

I laughed a lot as a small child,
And if I didn't laugh I smiled.

Little did I know what I knew.

My father worked long and hard days,
Day in and day out for his pay.

We couldn't communicate; no.

Mother ruled the house with iron will,
Like Bunker Hill, like Bunker Hill.

I wore bruises to school each day.

When I turned sixteen I found out,
What my life had been all about.

I asked for truth and they both lied.

My nightmares found me all alone,
Beneath covers I cried and groaned.

A youthful mind is easy ripped.

Grownup people spoke to me lies,
They left me standing high and dry.

I hate those people yet and still.

The past was there inside my head,
And that is why I up and fled.

Get away, get away; just go.

Those days are gone and now I'm here,
Nothing's changed I still see their stares.

Little did I know what I knew.

Ah, it was just one of those moments last night. I'm okay.

We're always okay, aren't we, Jerry?  Why is it that we actually can't write all those moments out permanently?

I just don't know why we can't write the moments out permanently, Helen. One would think we could after so long a time, but no, they are there, not to be denied. Thank you for being here.

some things can never be sugar coated or glazed over only written out in the pen of the truth
Again your words are hard hitting and ring
right through to the marrow.

Thank you for your understanding of the poem, EmmaRose. It is based on lies about my birth mother and I will die never knowing.

I am saddened when someone must write a sad poem and I thank you for shedding light on this for me.

Man, this hurts.  Very sad.

It is so sad to think about how many people are dealing with demons their parents unleashed on them.

I hope they are dealing with their demons better than I did mine, Ida. Thank you so much for being here.
