Listening to every heart

On The Very Last Day

I thank my family & friends today
for sticking with me through it all
those thick cruddy days, followed by
warm helium filled moments
where we shared and snared
every instant of delightfully muddy
minutes, washing them clean with tears and cheers,
holding tightly against distraught cries
when darkness descended…

I want to thank my family even more,
especially those that have gone on,
for they hover over, & this I know,
keeping me sane in moments of insanity
bringing me gifts of memory by a falling feather
or leafy shower of mental star power,
sharing all the while that only He is in control.

On this, my very last day of a fifth decade
to be disbelieved, might I see with aging eyes
a new brilliance ~ all that was might return to be
by style or simply be, because
only memories might see a new twist
to the elderly ways; and men might smile at
the height of skirt; but then,
even while through the smiling pain of misery,
through cricks of remorse, those shadows of
smiles cannot be restrained ~
no, never: even my rose colored glasses
with or without their bi- or tri-focals,
will always & forever see brilliant;
and my glass of whatever the libation
might be, will always, and forevermore
be more than half-filled…

for it is You that has and will always touch me,
in ways that cannot seek nor see words,
but only realize feelings, and in that touch
you, and you, and you have allowed me to simply
be.

Happy Birthday is my thanks to the memories
for now and those that will always be in the making.

A poem of thought-filled memories and gratitude to those who are near and dear and the ones gone, but are still with you and forever will be, and of course, that special one, the birthday one who stays within your heart.

~*~ If they give you lined paper, write sideways. ~*~

What a beautiful way to leave one decade behind and begin a new one! *S* Whatever the magnification, may your glasses never lose that rosy tint, may you continue to share your optimism as you do so generously through word and deed... and may life's cup overflow with blessings for you. Happy Birthday, K!!

There is a brand of annual flowers called "simply beautiful"
When I read this poem I thought of them...They are of very high quality, and always produce beautiful, impressive flowers, just like the words of this poem.

dearest Karilea
I have read this poem again and again
thinking perhaps words of wisdom would come to me
they should, right?
but not so
the only word that comes to me
is love.

and there you have it.
