Lori's poem "Inhale Me" started me thinking. This is the result.

watching my little mutt, Zoe
eating breakfast with me
I give her three different kinds of snacks
she likes
still, her delight
is waiting for me to finish my oatmeal
always save her a little
her dessert is how I like to think of it
she waits patiently
I try to hurry my part up
soon I sit the bowl on the floor
she cleans it
I feel good
she feels good
we have shared something meaningful

humans could be a little more sharing
don't'ja think?
we go along in mindless ruts
n'er thinking our significant other
might need a little lagniappe
like Zoe and her oatmeal
humans, too, sometimes need extra consideration
respect and lots and lots of love
we tend to ignore that want
even for those we profess undying love to
this heartless phenomena
commonly known as routine
when just a pat on the back
or bending down to kiss the nape of her neck
bury your face in her hair and breathe her in
love-making can be so routine
as to leave one
longing

Oh yes indeed,  Ida, Zoe is my all. She is a wonderful, energetic, keeping-me-young, mutt, and I love her.
