you wrote a story then, the sigh woman song
that woman of you in boots with heels
and her jaunty gown with wind and hem

you peeled away your last two lines after
because you knew they were too important
the most important part of your story perhaps

with not so much how you got me there slowly
but more what was waiting for me at the end
so you erased those clues quickly on purpose

and waited for me to ask for them out loud
not just to let me read the words with my eyes
but to taste them on purpose from your lips

and then watch you smile after, and then forever
