Secret Strength

A power hidden inside us all,
One we've never known
Makes us strong enough to stand,
To face the world on our own.
It's what keeps us alive,
Even when we want to die;
It helps us laugh out loud and smile
When all we want to do is cry.
What is this strength within us,
And where is it found?
When we wish we could fly like birds,
It keeps us on the ground.
We search forever for this strength,
But our purpose isn't finding "why":
That strength won't stop our destiny,
To live, to do, and to die.
So what's this power worth to us,
If it can't save a life?
Though, it helps us keep our balance
When we stand on the tip of the knife.
