She, like the sovereign gold
only winter within her mind
the skin of light
as the candle held onto its wax
much the same way she cradled her newborn

Her slightly cursive hair,
curls running down the mystic river
chasing after the shadowed children
that rolled their socks up until
the dirt could no longer see their freckled, skin

Even the wisest roads
The ones that had been paved and repaved
Cement piled onto more cement
began to lose their long, winding ways

She never withered like the leaves rolling down a slow mans face
never, with her soft shirt onto the calfs of the young newborn sheep
had she learned to live in such a way

Such is her skin to nestle the hardwood floors from their agony
to ease the fire that burns in the den behind her husbands chalked hair
She, like the sovereign gold
