MY LEAVE

‘Twas just a few words overheard you muttered in your sleep.
A taste of hope’s demise foretold, I felt the darkness creep.
In jubilant welcome, conferred by foul expellation of air,
I felt the room grow deathly still in the clutches of Despair.
‘Twas late I knew but still this news, orchestrated perfectly,
Held a claustrophobic effect – the theft of tranquility.
Ever a sucker for abuse, I stood, feet bared to cold floor,
Walked past the candle, held suspect, till in darkness I found the door.

The very threshold of Misery – unplowed fields lying fallow,
Beyond the splintered preconceptions of mind, found to be shallow.
Far off in the distance the howling of one lone wolf, crying,
Reminds me of the wiles of Love – the pain left to her dying.
No second thought, I step forth from this hall of antiquities –
Feel the brush of dew-kissed petals, ignoring their warning pleas.
A call to peace in water flowing, ‘miss a subtle shift of veils
Upon edge of the mist shrouded shore, numbed by its assuaging wails.

The moon reflected in the stream, I silently watch it shimmer,
As I remove the wedding ring, with its iridescent glimmer.
For a second, it dissipates the gloom that I have carried…
Till I fling it unto the drink, with all emotion, to be buried.
As I make my way to the crag where once I stood, as a child,
Watching marbles rolling downhill, making their way to the wild.
Missing still another signal, stepping over desiccated bones,
Between the dying and the damned, it’s but the will my spirit bemoans.

As I stand next the highest tree, at the end of my treasure hunt.
Only to realize I stand, alone, in my cause to sing triumphant.
With only clouds to inspire dreams, as Dawn greets the horizon,
I can finally see my only friend, and the pale horse he flies on…
Where, wearing nothing but want – knocking on an unlocked door,
As one leaf dances to the ground, I’ll hold that image evermore.
Twisting the knob, the door flung wide, as Destiny grants reprieve;
Look not to ground, but to the sky – this morning I take my leave.

As, leaving some grand waterfall,
We, lingering, list its roar-
So memory will hallow all
We've known but know no more.

Excellently rendered, Michael. You write as did the poets of old, it is refreshing in its heavy-laden drama.

very deep and so much like the way I have felt far too often I love this line.

A taste of hope’s demise foretold, I felt the darkness creep.

Wow, awe time here.
My eyes glued to each line, anticipating the next.
This is a beautiful piece of work.
Nicely done, Michael.

My God, man...

You make me hold my breath! I am in
Neverland, and the land of the Just,
all at once, and much too soon, the
poem quits.

I think I want to keep holding my
breath!

Please don't let anything else ever again
cause your computer to lose steam,
I need a "Michael Poem" every day!

If I could type a response while applauding, I'd be doing just that! *S* You never cease to amaze me and leave me both awestruck and anticipating the next gem from your pen. This is exquisite... and now I simply must go back to giving you the applause you deserve!

JP & JL,  thank you, I’m glad you both enjoyed.

Catalinamoon, wow, it’s good to see you poking your head in here.  How’ve you been?  I am truly sorry if you relate to this darkness on a personal level… but at least know you are not alone in these feelings.

K, lol, I don’t mind pumping out a poem a day… problem is, I need a new flavor now and again.  I’m still having to chase down muses as only the deeply dark and disturbed ones will play with me anymore.      Glad you enjoyed this one, even so.
