I’ve heard tales of perfect romance,
Of love that’s pure and free.
Of gently burning passions-
Which bring such ecstasy...

Of childhood sweetheart’s marriages
That last for fifty years.
The joy of life together, yielding,
Sweet, nostalgic tears.

I have heard of bright Valhalla-
Where the warriors ever dwell,
A resting place for fighting men-
Long since consigned to hell.

Where they abide with armor bright,
Their laurels give them rest,
Companionship with comrades-
Who have also passed the test.

Are these flights of fancy?
Or dreams which do deceive?
To calm the poor survivors...
And help them not to grieve.

I cannot say, we cannot know...
But this, I think I see-
If such delusions are not real-
They surely ought to be.

There ought to be a place for those
Who hadn’t one below.
A place for weary warriors-
Who once fell before the foe.

A place for jaded lovers...
Where from heartache they are free-
If there is no place like that,
There surely ought to be.

There is such a place, John.  In fact there are two!  One above called Heaven and another on Earth called the blue pages of Pip.

Most people here are very caring.  I know because so many have nursed so many of my wounds - and still do.

Instinctively, you know too, that the blue pages are a safe haven because you have many friends here.  Behind those/these cyber faces, are real people.  Pip isn't "just another place on the Internet."  Because of the years that so many people spend here, and through the poetry we write and read, we get to know each other as the real people we are.

Keep coming back to this safe haven, please.

Owl is right... until we reach heaven, these blue pages have friends who'll share burdens... and ache with you if they can't offer cheer. *S*

Beautiful write of weariness and hope!!!

Very profound words... There ought to be, indeed.

I will chime in and say Owl and Suthern have it pegged... this is as warm a place as I have seen on earth.  What lies beyond may have a better place, but for now, I doubt you could find a more comfortable home, or one more accepting.
