I thought I’d stop and take the time-
To meditate on me...
What I am, where I stand-
And what I ought to be.

The things I count important-
The friends I "must" not loose...
The things which I could lay aside,
Should I be forced to choose.

The memories which crowd my mind-
Some good, so many bad.
Which serve the best to make me, me?
The happy? or the sad?

To see that Arizona land,
Once more before I die-
To gaze into the crystal stars...
Of the dry, high-country sky.

To watch my children unaware-
Emotions undisguised...
To see the happiness, the hurt-
That’s mingled in their eyes.

To look at faded photographs-
When I was young and strong...
And sigh at my condition now...
As shadows grow so long.

I’ll live on in my writings-
The Traveler...What a Man!
I find him so delightful-
As he travels ancient lands.

My cowboys with their problems-
And their simple ways of life.
Broken bones, and broken homes,
And how they miss the wife.

I write, I read the things I wrote-
I smile, I pause and think...
I paint the mural of my life-
With every drop of ink.

I think you just stated it for all of us on the upper side of days, my friend ... very good write.

And I sure hope birthday wishes were due --
or I've really made a fool of me...

Keep'em coming 'slinger, always read them when I see them...

It's so lovely to read you Gunslinger. Your rhyme and cadence flow so beautifully.  I truly enjoyed the questions and contemplation throughout this poem, wonderful writing.

Best wishes,
Kit
