I went to Edgar Allen Poes'
but there was no one home
Then went to H. P. Lovecrafts' place
no spirits there did roam

I thought this very odd indeed
for it was Halloween
and used to the macabre, folks,
what ever could this mean?

No ghouls nor demons skulking 'bout
no hob-goblins nor trolls
No Elvis Pelvis shaking hips
or dressed up Tootsie rolls

My God dear friends, "pc" correct
in every single way
and sad that we have come to this
our children cannot play

It must be different in the south... for I was just talking with my sister and she had to hang up... a whole host of ghouls and goblins were pouring out onto the streets with their pails in hand! *S* And I saw some very un-pc costumes today... on adults! LOL

But it still makes a great poem... Save those apples for pies... you're one doctor we never want to keep away!!! LOL

I like this .. up here the kids are so bundled up that their costumes are under their snowsuits.  They look like litte Pillsbury dough boys.

I remember halloween as one if my greatest childhood joys. I hope those who are trying to ruin it don't succeed.

suthern,
Thanks, I may have exaggerated, I've been known to do that, lol. And, I forgot to factor in $4.00 a gallon gas, and the fact that I moved to a more rural area than I once lived. I did have ten kids stop by, but that's a far cry from what it used to be.
We'd have 150 to 200 at our old place and I do miss the variety and cleverness of some of those costumes.
Doc

Balladeer,
My good friend, thanks for saying that. I have attempted a "mixed meter" poem where I
interjected an anapest or two between iambs, and would be interested on your take on it. It's called "Physics 101" posted in open. I'd give you the link , but, I'm more terrible at that than I am at writing poetry, lol.
Doc

Alison,
Thanks, lol, now I have visions of hoards of Pillsbury Doughboys invading my dreams, or my reality.

Ida,
Thanks. I do too, it was pre-puter and gave one their first chance to step outside their "normal" persona and become someone else. How liberating if just for that night. I still try to cling to the
precept, last night I fashioned a moose mask and horns from cardboard and wrinkled paper towels, threw on some sunglasses and am pretty sure I was the coolest moose within a 100 mile radius. If I get the time I'll upload a photo, lol.

Enjoyed your rant...
Maybe you should protest, you know

"Give me some candy
give me pie, if you don't
I'll poke you in the eye!"

Instead of the 99%'ers protesting on wall street,
you could be the Hollow-Whiner protesting on main street.

NO??

Oh well.

JL,
Lol, there was a time when I was known to stand on a stump in my front yard about six feet from the road and issue a diatribe about anything that was bothering me at that particular time for a non-stop 20 minutes at a rather amplified sound level.
Then I found this place, and so far, they haven't threatened to arrest me half as much. Go figure.
