The alarm clock rings, I mutter a curse
Then a sniff in the air turns bad to worse
No aromatic whiff of morning brew
Teases my nose – What fool forgot to do
One simple chore before going to sleep?
And now there’s no coffee... I could just weep!

But I struggle upright, stagger down hall
Trip over the cats, manage to not fall
Arrive at the kitchen, turn on the light
Inhale the grounds (tempted to take a bite)

But measure the water into the pot
Checking the time to see how long I’ve got
Before I must be dressed and out the door
Time for only one cup? Oh, I need more!

Without caffeine’s boost to clear my poor head
I probably should crawl back into bed
So I steal a bit though making a mess
Rush through a shower and scurry to get dressed

Sitting down to enjoy a first full cup
Even knowing that my time’s about up
My muscles relax and stress slips away
As strong coffee prepares me for my day
And gives assurance folks will be seeing
Not sleepy monster but human being!

Ah, so your day got started off in a bad way and deteriorated from there. Uh huh. Been there. Done that. Love the poem.

“What fool forgot to do

Happens all the time.
I know better, and yet
I forget all the time.
I could easily be that fool.
(Uh, like this morning!)

Enjoyed your morning rush
in your “Java Rejuvenation”

When it comes to coffee you can just sign me up for the I V plan.  I'll gladly trolley around a rolling pole with a coffee bag hanging from it that pumps directly into my vein.

It's truly sad that we realize the lack of projected humanity one might observe in us without coffee ... but personally, having not had my coffee today, I couldn't care less what anyone else thinks...

Love coffee even more when it's cold.  Good time of year.

Me... hot, black, strong! In plastic cups so doesn't burn my lips, sipping. Life-blood, soul-stiffener, blues mellower. . .

but only if it's good, coffee.

enjoyed watching you awake...

This was fun to read, dear Ruth, I felt really like watching you. It is a must in the morning no doubt and it's great when you wake up because you inhaled hot coffee fragrance from a distance ... Most of the time it's me who prepares though.

Enjoyed this lovely poem very much.

Love,
Margherita

Jerry: And then I got to the bus, realized I'd forgotten my purse, went back for it and missed the bus... LOL Some days are just meant to be spent in bed... or start with an entire pot of coffee! LOL Thank you!!

Lori: Since nights are without, I definitely need coffee in my mornings! LOL

JL: I'm glad you enjoyed... sorry you relate so well! LOL

Michael: Will you be wearing one of those lovely gowns-that-leave-no-dignity during your coffee infusions? *bratty grin* If so... could you please walk by... again and again??? LOL Coffee's needed always and required for cold weather! LOL Thank you... and I hope you get your java soon! *S*

jwesley: I go for mugs... BIG mugs! LOL But otherwise, we're definitely on the same page... um... aisle. LOL Thank you! *S*

Margherita: There are days when I can wait until I get to work, where we have a machine that brews individual servings for 55 cents a cup. But other days, coffee goes into me before I go out the door! LOL Thank you!

JamesMichael: Thank you!!

Blues: I do, indeed! LOL Thank you!!

Ms E: Thank you so much... I'm glad you enjoyed!
