there was that day in Spain
my mouth longed for oysters
it was June
a warm day
with no R

still we went to the fishmonger
Portuguese oysters he said
and brought forth a dozen ruffled gray shells
he shucked them and laid them
like prehistoric butterflies on a tin plate
your hand touched the small of my back

my tongue teased the salty moist meat from its shell
alive
my lips lingered
how does it taste you asked

it tastes like the day we crawled from the sea
it tastes like time rubbed against my teeth
it tastes like love
it tastes like
the salty beginning of life

Ab-so-lutely loved this. Good, salty oysters from the brine. Life does not get any better. (Clichéd though it is) I liked your description of its taste. Fantastic. I can see the Acme Oyster Bar, New Orleans, I can taste the oyster with a dash of Louisana hot sauce as I type this . . .

When I first read this, Lady, I thought..."abalone, shrimp, oysters, clams..." all of my first tastes that the magnificent Pacific gave me back in the late 50's and early 60's. You brought it all home for me!

Thank you.

Sadly, so many of our children and theirs won't experience the best of the best; maybe we only had the best of the middle when we first succumbed to such lusciousness, I don't know...but we can only hope and pray that someday they might imbibe as delightfully as we have.

And by the way, My prayers continue.

Thank you JerryPat. Whether from Portugal or Louisiana, the taste of oysters is superb. The desire is even better.

Someone caught me in an oyster bar Karilea and this is the result; a memory of now.
Thank you for your prayers.

I loved your poem, and vivid description of oysters, but fried and smothered in hot sauce for me...

Enjoyed!

Lady Kate, not another oyster shall grace my lips without me thinking of your phenomenally accurate (and sensuous) description of enjoying those delectable morsels!

Fabulous poem and uniquely descriptive!

Love 'n hugs ~ and oysters!

Thank you Bruce. I always appreciate your opinion.

It feels good to be here with old friends Blues. Thank you.

JL I am a purist and have never had fried oysters. I imagine they would be good though. Thank you.

Ahhh Linda Angel, you read me so well. Love and hugs to you!

Oh my, what a pleasure to read you, dear Kate!

Though I am not a gourmet of oysters (my husband tried to make me like them as he does ...) I do highly appreciate your fantastic poem. I think it should be part of some book about oysters.

Love,
Margherita

Raw, Fried, Soup, or Stew...never, after literally millions of them I've eaten (ACME too), had my fill . . . yet!

And, I, too, was caught by the line . . .
"like prehistoric butterflies on a tin plate"

Awesome.

Quite introspective.  This can be taken many different ways, and that's a good thing.    Nicely done.
