Not so neatly packed--this box.
My minimal belongings cost
a tear for all I throw away.
I cannot leave. I cannot stay.

Booties, cards, and dog collars
with memories of loyalty.
I had such a following
then I got lost in wallowing.

History is such a test.
A curse, to live with what is left.
I feel no love and no respect.
I weep for lack of touch--caress.

This is the day that I foresaw,
thinking that someone might grieve.
I didn't know it would be me
facing fact reality
that I had successfully
prepared them all for absentee

while hiding in my room.

Not quite what I used to be--
I've never been myself and soon
another day will come, foreseen--
a thrift store will display my dreams--
all garbage without memories

and no one old to tell the tales,

will make a bentwood rock.

I'm just downsizing...

mid life crisis and all that.

And it's amazing how much crap a person can acquire in twenty years.

*kisses* sweet friend.

No worries. What I suspect you fear is something that the family and I made as pact long ago. We just won't do ...that. Damned near everything else is understood, if not acceptable though.

I have been watching for you to write.Did your missing dog come home? I understand about packing things and getting rid of things.I have been trying for two years and it just seems to be adding up. I hate to run tag sales so some things will be trashed and some for AMVETS others repacked for another  read or touch. Touching you tonight with fondness.((((hugs))))jo

Ooooo, yep... Downsizing is sometimes a pain in the lower lumbar region…
But as you are doing, it is necessary, as we get older.

When my daughter passed away I learned how hard it is to deal with material things that no longer have a person. Since then it has been easier for me to get rid of things
as I think of those who will eventually have to deal with my personal belongings.

A curse, to live with what is left.

It can definitely be that! And when you finish at your place... I could use some help? *S* (((HUGS)))

fine "slice of life's realities" write ...

As a magnificent 'life and love' failure ... and having lost 'all that really matters' ...
I KNOW many of these feelings all too well! ...

even my 'downsizing' has been multiply downsized...

I hate parting with 'things' I do try to hold onto a few real special ones too.
Memories hard to hold to, and  hard to let go

My husband woke up with natural light in his bedroom for the first time since Hurricane Katrina.

He thought he was dying.

Then he saw ME in natural light and thought I was dying.

For the first time in years I just kept my mouth shut.

It's hard enough to process stuff just as it is, without anticipating the inevitable.

I simply say that we've been trying for too long to make things add up in our life.

We probably should have started subtracting a long time ago.

My love to you all. And smile.

And note to the kids, if we should die before we wake? Throw my stuff away and sell his on E BAY.

mercy...

The intrical part to any serenity poem
is to read the responses before replying.

And then to say, as we are fraught to do...
that this poem [and so many, many of the others]
resonates within, sounding bells, sometimes
alarms,
as fact and reality rears its head and behind,
and we should never not take a moment to
slap one or the other silly,
just to wake up
smell the coffee,
and hug serenity.

There is a life attached to many inanimate objects we possess… through memory and emotion.  Letting go of such can be devastating to say the least.  To think of them in the hands of someone else… someone whom they could never mean as much to as they do to you.  I know and understand this pain.  I have a (hug) for you if you want it.

All hugs are greatly appreciated.

I just might fall into them, though.

Now.

Off for a bath! And every mother reading this knows I'll have to clean the bathroom first.

Love to all.

More hugs.

By now you are al bathed and sweet smelling. Have a good night Karen. You are so special.I wish you were able to see what others see. My daughter told me the other day what I say said nice about her, did not count, bcause mothers say nice things all the time. But if she had known how much her brothers thought of her before she grew older, she wondered if she would have tried too hard to live up to their expectations or would it have helped her to fulfil them. a question no one can answer I guess.love to you. jo

Enjoyed your treatment of this dilemma, K.

And when did we fall into this trap?  A long time ago, me thinks - when we started to plant seeds and stuck around for the fruits.  Then we lost all sense of proportion . . .

Been there! Done that! ~ and gosh, Serene One, as per usual, you nailed it. You draw your readers in and make us feel every blessed mot! Either we can identify with the subject of your fine writing, or you make us feel as though we have lived the experience!

Giving you a big, comforting hug,
All is well! ~ or at least it will be!

Earth Angel--it does my heart and soul so much good to see you here.

(Not to dismiss anyone else, but I'm lacking focus today.)

I should have slept well, but I did not.

*smile*

My daughter and her s/o just left to go protest at the voting precinct...

I smiled and told her to keep a smile on her face, and don't succumb to the Idiots trying to organize the Idiots.

"If you let someone else organize you, you're just going to lose the smile on your face and end up more confused than ever, not knowing where someone else placed your values..."

More winks, more hugs.

OH.

myyyy....

Even on days when I vow to keep my mouth shut, my thoughts slip outta my fingahs.
