      Black and White

      shadow and light

      pale white light
      no color left

      reflected
      window to window
      through hot-rolled glass

      dracena and lace
      ripple silently across
      an old dining room wall

      a flat ephemeral universe
      once
      only once

      now

      gone

Exquisite moment of nostalgia painted with a quiet brush into a work of art I want on my wall for all time and from which I cannot drag my eyes away.  A poem that is as simple or as multi-facetted as the reader chooses, no matter what the master painter intended.  This tiny gem outsparkles its size.  The soft Rembrandt-lighting is mesmerising.  Dracaena hookeriana is the cousin I know - or perhaps even the same species as you painted?

I love the beauty of ephemeral things, most of my marriages were of that nature. But you are speaking of another, different, and all together wonderful, but fleeting, of a site so holy-like it almost defies description.

Love it...the movement of the earth, and time passing, proven by the shadows of lance-leaf plant, and lace causing pattern on a wall.
This is what good poetry does--demonstrate by words, the small, important details of life that often lack attention.

"dracena and lace
ripple silently across
an old dining room wall"

I found myself staring at that same wallpaper and asking: From antiquity to modern time does anything have meaning except for change itself?  And then before you know it, that change is gone.

Enjoyed your very deep thought in this write.
