secrets not forgotten
displayed for me to see
upon a giant screen
when you are in the room
breath upon my neck
though you're forever gone
I lose myself
forget for a moment who I am
as the scent of your preferred perfume
tickles my nose
makes me sneeze
I hear your gentle laugh
as before
its at times like these
I search for the good about us
the glowing sheen
of your olive skin, searching brown eyes
quirky smile
the other recollections
will, I am sure
chase out the good
so I savor each moment
impatient to reach out for you
knowing only empty air
will meet my grasp
I ease myself from the porch swing
amid creaks and groans
I walk inside, turn on the TV
hoping to chase
those other memories
the bad ones
away
I hardly ever do

If only the sweet didn't come with that bit of bitter. Your love and remorse are brilliantly expressed.

again the ghosts...  I can honestly say I feel your ache in this one.

I won't offer a hug, but maybe a nod of understanding is in order.

Do you realize your at the head of the table yet?

Appreciate it, Michael, and no, I didn't know I was at the head of the table.

Such a charming couple, Nanette and you!

This is beautifully poignant.

so I savor each moment
impatient to reach out for you
knowing only empty air
will meet my grasp

This aches, bone deep... I can feel the fingers closing on nothing... and the heart stab that brings.

You wrote another few lines of the poem with your knowledgeable comments. I am impressed, suthern.
